Description
The walled enclosure north of the Church of St Nicholas is a rectangular structure dating from the 19th century, with some earlier brickwork that may date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. It is surrounded by four high red brick walls that enclose a yard containing two panelled sheds with asbestos roofs. The southwest wall is primarily early 19th century and constructed in Flemish bond, featuring a square stone inscribed with 'Churchyard boundary 1814'. The northern end of this wall has a raised section with a pattern of darker brick headers. The southeast wall, also in Flemish bond, includes a short section with moulded brick coping and a flat buttress. The northeast wall now serves as the lower part of a shed, while the northwest and southeast walls were rebuilt in the 20th century. This walled enclosure is significant for its historical fabric and its strong group value with other nearby listed buildings, including the Church of St Nicholas to the south, which is listed at Grade II*.
