Description

No. 8 King’s Quay Street is a house dating from the 18th century or early 19th century. It has a timber-framed structure with a rendered brick front and a clay plain tile roof that connects with Nos. 9 and 7. There is an additional attic storey that is positioned at right angles to the main roof, featuring a low-pitched Welsh slate roof and black weatherboarding. The building has two storeys, attics, and an extra fourth storey attic added around 1900.

The upper attic includes two linked, two-light casement windows with small panes. There is also a hipped-roof dormer with clay plain tiles, a moulded timber cornice, and an asymmetrical double-hung sash window with six panes, situated behind a plain parapet. On the first floor, there are two similar windows and a recessed door with a semicircular-arch head supported by impost blocks, leading up three stone steps. The door features thin reeded jambs and architrave, a radiating 'petal' fanlight, and a 20th-century six-panel door.

Inside, there is an early 19th-century winder staircase with column newels, a hardwood handrail, and a continuous curved soffit. A door on the first floor has a 19th-century moulded architrave and a borrowed light above made of wine-coloured glass. The interior also showcases exposed spine beams and a framed side purlin roof, along with an early 19th-century fire surround in the front room on the ground floor. Additionally, there is a boundary wall to the rear yard that separates the garden of No. 7, constructed of septaria.
