Description

The Old House is a house dating from the 15th century or earlier, with alterations and additions made in the 17th century and later. It is constructed with an exposed timber frame and has red, plain-tiled roofs. The building comprises a crosswing to the left of the main range and a lower range to the right. Attached to the main range is a large, shaft chimney stack, with tall chimney stacks to the rear of the right range and to the left of the left crosswing. The house is two storeys and attics in height, except for the right range. The crosswing is jettied to the front and left return, supported by brackets. Arched braces are visible on the first floor of the crosswing, the right bay of the main range, and the right range. The windows are a 1:3:1 arrangement of vari-light, leaded casements, with a 20th-century oriel window in the centre of the main range. To the right of the main range is a hipped porch and a door consisting of two vertical panels with a Tudor-style head. The building was formerly known as The Shepherd and Dog Inn.
