Description
Horner's Corner is a corner block building located at the junction of North Street and South Street, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, with earlier origins. The building is primarily faced with red brick on North Street, except for the plastered south gable. The first floor is red brick, while the ground floor facing South Street is tiled. The East Street elevation features plastered brick. The roofs are covered with red plain tiles, although the northern block's roof on East Street was derelict at the time of the re-survey.
On the North Street side, the three-storey block has a two-window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes with gauged brick arches. There is a four-panel door to the right with a fanlight above, also featuring a gauged brick arch. The southern block has two storeys and attics, with coping on the right and left gables and a central parapet. It includes a gabled lucam in the central roof, which is now weatherboarded. The right gable attic has a two-light window. The first floor has a 1:1:0 arrangement of small paned vertically sliding sashes with gauged brick arches, while the ground floor features boarded windows, with gauged brick arches on the two left windows, fluted pilasters, a moulded frieze, and a flat canopy above the right window. There is a simple surround to a four-panel door situated between the left windows.
On the South Street side, there is a red brick parapet with three first-floor vertically sliding sashes that have horns and segmental arches. The ground floor shop front is tiled, with left and right doors that have attached inner shop windows, all of which are now boarded, along with fascias above.
The East Street elevation includes a single-storey link building that is completely boarded and attached to the two-storey northern block, which is missing its roof. This side features a dentilled cornice and three first-floor small paned windows, with a small square window off-centre to the left and a long rectangular window with a timber lintel to the right. There is a simple doorway to the left, all now boarded, and two square pierced metal grilles below the long window.
