Description
The Old Ship Public House is a building of C18 and C19 origin, with possible earlier elements, and has undergone later alterations. It is constructed of painted brick with a hipped grey slate roof and features gault brick chimney stacks to the right, left and centre. A moulded parapet tops the building. The facade is of 6 bays, with the central 4 bays projecting slightly. It has a plinth and central band. The building is two storeys high, with a 1:4:1 window arrangement of small-paned vertically sliding sash windows, each with a gauged brick arch. The ground floor includes a carriageway in the left bay, a frieze and cornice above, and vertically sliding sash windows to the central and right bays. There are doors set to the right and left of the central bays, each with a moulded surround, frieze, and a flat canopy supported by scroll brackets. An elaborate cast iron scroll lamp bracket is located on the ground floor to the left, and an iron scrollwork bracket supports the central name board.
