Description
The bake/brewhouse adjacent to the rear (east) of Doggetts Farmhouse is a building with origins dating back to the 16th century, featuring later alterations. It is constructed with a timber frame and is weatherboarded, topped with a red plain tiled roof and a gable at the rear. The structure is one storey high with a loft. Inside, there is a 16th-century chimney stack that has a later brick bake oven on the left, which includes two cast iron doors marked "TAP Denning, Anchor Works, Chelmsford." Additionally, a pot swivel and chain are attached to the walls of the chimney. The frame of the building is arch braced and includes cambered tie beams, while the roof is of side purlin construction.
