Description
This is a byre with a hayloft above, located approximately 60 metres northwest of Apton Hall Farmhouse, which is not listed. The structure dates from the 18th or 19th century and features a timber frame with a weatherboarded loft. The ground floor is open to the farmyard, and the return is made of gault brick. It has a red plain tiled roof and consists of six bays by two bays. The central storey posts rest on ground cills and are supported by pegged, inverted V braces. This byre was once part of a much larger farm complex, and along with the nearby gamelarder/malthouse, is one of the few remaining structures of note. The original farmhouse has been demolished and replaced by a 20th-century building.
