Description

The Chequers is a public house that dates from the 16th or 17th century, with later alterations and additions. It features a timber-framed and plastered structure, resting on a brick plinth, and has red plain tiled roofs. The main range has a large plastered brick chimney stack, while an external red brick chimney stack is located on the right gabled cross-wing. The building is two storeys high, with the first floor displaying a range of four windows, and the ground floor featuring two ranges of mainly two- or three-light casements. There is a boarded door with a small paned top light, framed by a moulded surround and topped with a flat canopy on brackets. To the left, there is a single-storey extension that includes two rear ranges; the left return adjoins the churchyard and has a three-window range of two small paned casements and a 19th-century three-light vertically sliding sash. A vertically boarded door is located at the front of this extension.
