Description
No. 6 Head Street is a house that dates from the 17th or 18th century, or possibly earlier. It features a timber frame and rough render, topped with a grey slate double range roof. The building has an off-centre red brick chimney stack and stands two storeys tall. The front has two windows with vertically sliding sashes that include glazing bars and moulded surrounds, with pentice boards above. There is an enclosed gabled porch with red plain tiles and carved brackets, leading to a four-panelled two-light door. To the right, there is a forward gabled crosswing that has a combination of grey slate and red pantiles for its roof, with parts that are plastered and parts that have a painted brick finish. This crosswing is one storey and has an attic, featuring a long casement window with glazing bars at the apex and a small-paned ground floor window that has a canopy supported by a row of curved brackets, which likely served as a former shop window. The building is included for its group value.
