Description

The Village Wheel Pump, located on the south side of Head Street near the junction of Fish Street, is a 19th-century cast iron wheel pump. It features a six-spoked flanged wheel with a handle and balance on opposite sides. The pumping mechanism is housed in a locked iron cover with a semi-circular head. To the right of the pump is a raised semi-circular stone dais, historically known as The Pug Stone, while to the left is a plain tubular pump head with both high and low spouts. This pump is a very unusual survival and is of interest in the village square.
