Description

No. 7 Fullbridge is a house that has been converted into a shop and flat, dating from the mid-17th century. It features a timber-framed structure that is rendered over a ground floor made of red English bond brick, which is now mostly rendered, topped with a gabled concrete pantile roof. The building is two storeys high, plus an attic, and has a one-window range, along with a single-storey brick extension at the rear.

The gabled end of the house has a 2-light 20th-century casement window in the attic, positioned above a 20th-century window in an old opening. On the ground floor, there is a 19th-century shop front that includes a fascia and cornice above a 3-light window and a 19th-century door. The north-east front features a 20th-century casement window on each floor and a glazed 20th-century door beneath a timber gable. The rear extension includes a 2-light small-paned casement window and a tall chimney stack.

The ground floor, made of English bond brick, has a moulded plinth that appears to be contemporary with the building. The bridging joists are built into this, showing an exposed end on the south-west front.

Inside, there are five bays of substantial framing with a stack located in the centre bay and a tight winder staircase at the rear of this bay. The attic features a true A-frame type structure with dovetails at the foot of the principal rafters. The rear tie beam is asymmetrically cambered, demonstrating the quality of timber available at the time of construction.
