Description

Cage Row is a row of cottages dating from the 18th century, located on East End Road in Bradwell-on-Sea. The cottages are timber framed, with some rough rendering and predominantly weatherboarded cladding. The roofs are red clay tile, with a gambrel design on the left and centre ranges to create two levels, and a plain lower level to the right. Red brick chimney stacks are visible from the road. The left and centre ranges have one storey and attics, featuring three catslide dormers. The right range is two storeys high. The window arrangement is varied, with a range of 4:4:2 and some windows have pentice boards above them. The doors are mostly 20th century replacements, except for Nos. 4 and 5, which have vertically boarded doors, and No. 6, which has a 20th-century porch. No. 6 was originally a harness maker’s workshop and retains some pegs and hooks. The row is sometimes referred to as Caidge Row.
