Description
High Hall Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. It is timber framed, mostly covered with gault and red brick in Flemish bond, and partly plastered, with a roof made of concrete tiles. The building has a five-bay range aligned east to west, featuring an axial stack and a single-storey extension at the west end. There is a two-bay wing to the north and a single-storey lean-to extension in the northeast corner. A late 19th-century extension to the south, which includes a stack to the west, creates a cruciform plan that now faces east. The farmhouse is two storeys high with an attic.
The east elevation is designed in the Gothic Revival style, primarily using gault brick. On the ground floor, there is one sash window with marginal lights, two fixed lights with two-centred heads and Y-tracery, and one early 20th-century sash window. The first floor features one sash window with marginal lights, two sashes with Tudor heads, and one early 20th-century sash window. In the attic gable, there is one sash window with a two-centred head. Additionally, there are 20th-century double doors with a fanlight in a two-centred head.
Inside, the walls are mainly plastered, but the chamfered beams with lamb's tongue stops are exposed in the east-west main range on both storeys. There is a large wood-burning hearth facing west, which has been blocked.
