Description
Oxley House is a house built in the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and has a slate roof. The building has a two-span plan that faces northwest, positioned at right angles to the road, with internal stacks on each side of the front range. It is two storeys high and features a three-window range of late 19th-century sash windows in their original openings, which have flat arches made of gauged brick.
At the front, there is a 20th-century central porch that includes a door and doorcase from the 18th century. The door is a six-panel design with a plain fanlight above, supported by foliate capitals and topped with a dentilled open pediment. A string course made of gault brick runs along the base of the plain parapet. The low-pitched roofs are concealed by the parapet at the front.
On the rear elevation, the first floor has three original sash windows with 16 lights each. The two front ground-floor rooms have early 18th-century pine panelling and introduced fireplaces; one is made of sandstone from the 18th century, and the other is a painted warble from the early 19th century. These introduced features are reported to have been sourced from buildings demolished by the London County Council in the 1950s.
