Description

Grove Hall Farmhouse is an early 17th-century house that has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is timber framed and has a roughcast rendered exterior, now covered with concrete tiles on the roof. The house has three bays facing southwest, with an external stack at the rear and a 19th/20th-century extension to the rear. The ground floor has one 19th/20th-century sash window of 16 lights, and one 19th/20th-century tripartite sash window. The first floor has two similar tripartite sash windows. A central half-glazed door is set within a gabled porch. The house features jowled posts. Inside, there are axial beams, some of which are partly chamfered with lamb's tongue stops, and plain joists of square section. An interruption in the chamfers suggests there was formerly a central stack, creating a lobby entrance. Tiebeams and much of the timber frame are boxed in and concealed by plaster. The walls have been raised, and the roof has been rebuilt.
