Description
Woodham Mortimer Grange is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with red brick facing from the 18th or 19th century and later alterations. There is a single-storey extension added to the left in the 20th century. The house is timber-framed and faced with red brick, featuring a hipped roof covered in plain red tiles on the front range. The rear has various ranges, and there are square attached chimney stacks made of red brick on both the right and left sides.
The first floor has a range of four windows, while the ground floor has three windows, all of which are tripartite small-paned vertically sliding sashes with segmental heads. There is an off-centre right porch made of red brick with a stone pediment, leading to a four-panelled door with reveal panels. Inside, the house features chamfered bridging joists, impressive fireplaces, and a twisted baluster staircase that is reputed to have come from Beeleigh Abbey. Historically, the Grange was recorded as a property of Beeleigh Abbey at one time.
