Description
Timbercot is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed with a timber frame and weatherboarding, topped by a red tiled gambrel roof that features one flat-headed dormer. The cottage has red brick chimney stacks on both the left and right sides. It is one storey high with attics and has a two-window range of vertically sliding sashes with shutters, along with one oval window that has glazing bars. To the left, there is a 20th-century flat-roofed porch, and to the right, a round-headed door with a flat canopy above it. Inside, there is a restored inglenook fireplace that retains its original stop-chamfered mantel beam, as well as chamfered bridging joists. A brick-built Dame School, which has since been demolished, was previously attached to the right side of the cottage. Timbercot is also recorded in early Lloyd's Registers.
