Description
Seeley House Farmhouse is an early 19th-century house, originally a farmhouse, located on Fambridge Road, Maldon. Constructed of brownish-red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, it is topped with a gabled roof covered in plain tiles. The house presents an L-shaped plan, although this has been altered in the 20th century with the addition of a flat-roofed, two-storey extension on the south corner, creating a square footprint.
The principal front elevation, which has three windows, features wide eaves. The first floor has two 20-pane sash windows flanking a blind recess. The central entrance is distinguished by a semicircular arched head, filled with render and framed by a reeded architrave. Similar sash windows are located on either side of the entrance. The side elevations are pebbledashed, and two rendered stacks stand on the front range, with two further stacks behind. A single-storey extension with a gabled roof of plain tiles connects to the east corner.
Inside, a simple staircase with an old boarded door leads to a cellar. The east wing retains an exposed floor with large, chamfered bridging joists. The cellar contains reused timber, including the original bressumer from a jettied house.
