Description

The barn east of Netteswellbury House is a 15th-century structure consisting of six bays aligned east to west. It is timber-framed with aisles on both the north and south sides. The exterior is black weatherboarded, showing signs of its original vertical board cladding. The hipped roof is covered in corrugated iron due to fire damage in recent years, which has also charred the surfaces of the main frame timbers. The midstrey is absent. The main and aisle posts are heavily jowled, with shores that form tie-beam arch-braces. The roof features side-purlins that are braced in pitch. The scarfs date from around 1440 and include edge halvings and either bird's-mouthed or sallied bridlings.
