Description
Spiers Farm is a lobby entrance house from the late 17th century, with extensions made in the 19th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered with a chevron design in panels and is roofed with handmade red clay tiles. The building has three bays aligned northwest to southeast, with an axial chimney stack located in the central bay, which originally formed a lobby entrance but is now blocked. There is a lean-to extension on the southwest side, which is weatherboarded and has a roof made of corrugated asbestos. The structure is single storey with attics, featuring a weatherboarded dado, two 20th-century casement windows, and two additional windows in swept dormers. Originally converted into two cottages in the 19th century, doors were added to the side elevations, but it has since been re-combined into one dwelling. The ground floor rooms have axial beams that are plain chamfered with well-cut bar stops in the northwest room, while the southeast room has plain beams. The southwest wallplate is re-used from an earlier building and has rafter seatings on its side. The tiebeams are waney and exhibit irregular curvature, and no other framing is exposed internally.
