Description

Weald Lodge is an 18th-century house that has been altered in the early 19th and 20th centuries. It features a combination of brick and timber framing, which is plastered, and is roofed with handmade red clay tiles. The building has a double pile near-square plan, with its main elevation facing south, which is now the garden side. Inside, there is a central entrance and staircase hall, with two internal chimney stacks symmetrically placed in the east-west cross-wall. The house has two storeys and attics, along with a single-storey extension to the west, dating from the early 19th century, which has a slate roof and a central chimney stack that now ends below the roof. There is also a conservatory to the west, and all roofs are hipped.

On the south elevation, there is a glazed door with marginal lights and a shallow pedimented hood supported by scrolled brackets, along with three French windows featuring marginal lights, all from the early 19th century. Additionally, there are two 20th-century casement windows. The first floor has three double-hung sash windows with 16 lights, dating from the 18th century. The north elevation was under alteration when inspected in May 1983 and includes two hipped dormers. The staircase features a rosewood handrail with two slender turned balusters for each tread and scrolled tread ends, along with some associated panelling. The south elevation originally had a symmetrical design before the early 19th-century alterations, which only affected the ground floor. The vehicle approach is now at the north side, which was formerly the farmyard.
