Description
Black Hall is an early 15th century hall house featuring a gabled crosswing at the north end. The structure is timber framed and plastered, with the frame exposed on the exterior, and it has a red plain tile roof. The house is two storeys high and has a three-window range, with 20th century leaded casements mostly in their original openings. At the south end, there is a 20th century brick and glazed porch topped with a red plain tile roof. A 16th century red brick chimney stack is present, and the north crosswing jetties out at the front and side, supported by a moulded corner post. The south service end of the house no longer exists. Inside, there is a 16th century inserted first floor in the hall and a 16th century fireplace. The interior features crownpost roofs, chamfered and moulded beams, and numerous original window positions, along with original doorheads. It is noted that Black Hall was said to have been a meeting place for the Guild of All Saints, which was founded in 1473.
