Description

Greylands is a house, now partially used as a surgery, built around 1834 by J. Berry to the design of T.M. Baynes. The building is constructed of gault brick and features stucco bands, rusticated quoins, and ashlar panelling on the ground floor. It has two storeys and a projecting, moulded cornice above a plain parapet. The façade includes a five-window range of small-paned, double-hung sashes set in moulded surrounds, complete with a frieze and a small canopy; the central window is topped with a moulded pediment. The ground floor has a matching four-window range that is recessed and supported by brackets underneath. A central panelled door is framed by a moulded surround and topped with a light above. The entrance is accentuated by a heavy porch featuring Tuscan columns and pilasters with moulded bases, a plain frieze, and a cornice. The house has four gault brick chimney stacks. Additionally, there are 19th-century cast iron cross-braced panel railings extending to the left and right of the porch, leading to the return walls.
