Description
This shop building at 146 and 148 High Street, Ongar, dates primarily from the 17th century, with alterations in the 18th and later centuries. The South wing is timber-framed and plastered, featuring a red plain tile roof with two 19th-century dormers. These dormers contain small-paned, vertical sliding sash windows. The building is two storeys high with attics. The first floor has a two-window range of small-paned, vertical sliding sash windows, each with a moulded canopy. A 19th-century two-bay shop front is present, constructed with cast iron vent strips, bracketed corners, and mullions. A central glazed door provides access, and a central red brick chimney stack is visible.
