Description

TL 5502 ONGAR HIGH STREET (E side) 9/78 Church Approach. Premises of Jackmans Office Equipment to rear of Wren House

GV II

Outbuilding, now used as office. Late Cl9. Timber framed and painted weatherboard. Grey slate roof with red ridge tiles. 2 storeys and attic with central gabled dormer. Central vertically boarded cote to ridge. There are decorative rafter feet and decorative purlin ends to return gables which have finials and pendants to apex. Matching finials and pendants and barge boards to dormer. First floor has herringbone weatherboarding to right and left and six small paned lights, centrally placed. Ground floor with 2 small paned casements and ½ glazed door to left and boarded double doors to right. The central infill is weatherboard with seven plain pilasters. An unusual and decorative building with good group value to the Church and its surrounding buildings. Possibly a carpenters workshop originally.
