Description
Nazeing Upper Town Cottage is a house dating from the 15th century or earlier, originally designed as an open hall house with crosswings. It features a timber frame and is weatherboarded, topped with a red plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and a single storey with attics. The crosswings are gabled and jettied on brackets. There are three window ranges with casements that include glazing bars, and a central dormer window. A plain door is located in its original position next to the left-hand crosswing. The cottage has 16th-century and later red brick chimney stacks, along with 17th-century red brick extensions at the rear. The property is situated within a moated area.
