Description
This is a 15th-century barn located northeast of Rookwood Hall. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, topped with a half-hipped concrete tiled roof. Originally, it was a two-storey domestic structure featuring a diamond mullioned window in each of the four original bays on both sides. The eastern end was formerly jettied. The roof structure includes a hybrid design with cross quadrant crown posts, collar purlins, framed side purlins, and curved wind bracing. The scarf joints are halved with double bridles. During its conversion to a barn, additional bays were added at both ends, and a midstrey was constructed on the southern side. This barn is noted to have been the original meeting place for Presbyterians in the parish before they built a church near Anchor House around 1730. The barn is situated on a moated site.
