Description

The garden pavilion, built in the late 17th century, and the wall, dating from the 17th or 18th century, are located approximately 50 metres west of Albyns Manor. The pavilion is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with limestone dressings and has a felted wooden roof. It is square in shape with an open side facing south and features one window on the north side. The wall extends to the east-north-east for about 36 metres and includes a bay to the north near the centre.

The pavilion has 20th-century double glazed doors, flanked by dwarf walls topped with stone balusters. It also features an architrave with triglyphs, a cornice, and an ogival roof that ends in a damaged wrought iron weathervane. There are traces of the original lead roofing at the top, while the rest is felted. The structure has stone quoins alternating with brickwork, and a string course, architrave, and cornice on all four sides. The north side includes a two-light window with a hollow-moulded mullion and surround, featuring 20th-century leaded glass.

On the west side, there is a brick gate pier with a scrolled stone head. The wall is made of brickwork with stone coping, standing between 1.5 to 2 metres high, with a central bay that forms a balustrade. Two gadrooned ball finials remain in place. To the south of the pavilion is a terrace with a swimming pool. These garden features are the only remnants of the former Albyns mansion, which was built in the early 17th century, recorded by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England around 1920, and demolished around 1955, aside from removed internal features.
