Description
This is a 18th-century table tomb located approximately 15 yards southeast of the Church of St. Martin in Ongar. The tomb is set on a chamfered base that features a chamfered and then a moulded step. The main panels have a moulded, foliated base with decorative enrichments on the head and sides. There are cherub faces on the left and right. The rectangular center panels have concave corners and are topped with a moulded slab. The tomb commemorates Sarah Mitford (1776), Sarah Boodle (1789), John Boodle (1791), Mary Mitford (1784), John Boodle, a surgeon of this town (16 April 1798), and Edward Boodle (3 August 1828).
