Description

A barn dating to around 1500 stands to the north-east of Hoe Farmhouse. The barn has a substantial oak frame set upon red brick footings, and is clad with black weatherboard and peg tiles. It is of five bays, without aisles, and features a north-facing midstrey with a low-pitched Victorian roof. The main posts have jowls and wall-studs in one length, with wind-bracing trenched into the outer faces; there are six studs per bay. The tie-beams are cambered with quadrant-type arch-braces, heavy compressive collars, a side-purlin, and wind-braces. A threshing floor is constructed of flagstones.
