Description
St Mary's Arts Centre is a former church located on Church Street, originally known as the Church of St Mary-at-the-Wall. The medieval church was ruined during the Siege of Colchester in 1648 and was rebuilt between 1713 and 1714, except for the late 15th-century west tower. A new embattled stage was added to the tower in 1729. In 1872, the nave and chancel were reconstructed according to the designs of Sir Arthur Bloomfield. Inside the tower, there is a marble monument dedicated to John Rebow, dated 1699.
