Description
Nos. 14, 15, and 16 on Colchester Road is an 18th-century former poor house constructed of red brick in Flemish bond. The building has two storeys and a rectangular plan, topped with a gambrel roof that is pegtiled and features dentilled brick eaves. There are three flat dormers along the rear pitch and three rectangular red brick chimneys along the ridge. The first storey has three plain doors that are irregularly spaced, along with three pairs of matching sash windows, all set under segmental arches. At the rear, there is a later one-storey addition. Inside, No. 14 contains a large former open fireplace with a mantle beam that has been reused from the 16th century. The bonding timbers in the first storey walls suggest that the roof may have been raised at some point.
