Description
The Shoulder of Mutton Public House is a 14th century house with later additions, designed in an H plan. It has two storeys, framed in timber, and is clad with painted weatherboard and plaster. The building features ridged and gabled roofs that are covered with peg tiles. All jetties are underbuilt, and the ground storey is rendered. A main chimney stack made of red brick is located behind the ridge near the north return. On the west side of the hall roof, there are two hipped dormers. The first storey has three sash windows with glazing bars and exposed boxes, one in each wing and one in the hall. The ground storey has modern casement windows. Inside, there is significant evidence of 14th century construction, including a heavy frame with jetties to the west, bare faced soffit tenons on the floor joists, and later bolection moulded panelling.
