Description
The Bridge House is a 17th century house that incorporates earlier timber framing. It has a double range forming an L-plan, joined with a single range that runs roughly east-west, and is two storeys high throughout. The front range is covered in red brick with pilastered returns that are dated 'MAB 1847'. It features a row of five windows on the first storey and horned two-pane sash windows on the ground storey, which have stucco heads with keystones and sills. The front door is set in a wide wooden case with two flattened columns and a flat leaded hood, surrounded by fielded returns. The roof is ridged and gabled, covered with peg tiles and has a three-course brick eaves cornice, along with two red brick chimney stacks on the rear slope. Inside, the first floor has much pine panelling, ceiling cornices, and chair rails that date from around 1700. The front range also contains a 16th century timber east wall that was raised by three feet in the early 17th century.
