Description

Nos. 5, 7, and 9 Anchor Hill are a group of three cottages dating from the 18th century. They are constructed of red brick laid in Flemish bond, with gault brick detailing and slate roofs.

The cottages were originally designed with an interlocking room plan for each pair, though this layout is partly visible in Nos. 5 and 7 but lost in No. 9.

The cottages are two storeys high, with ridged and gabled roofs, a central ridge stack, and two end stacks. The east-facing facade has three gault brick pilasters and an over-painted nail-head brick eaves band. The ground floor of Nos. 7 and 9 features round-headed doorways. The ground floor of No. 5 has a square-headed entrance door, replacing an original window opening, and is flanked by two small, rectangular windows. Nos. 5 and 7 have three six-over-six sash windows on the first floor. No. 9 has two two-over-two sash windows on the ground floor and three matching windows on the first floor. All window and door openings have rendered heads.

The interior of No. 9 has been substantially remodelled into a single dwelling.

Behind the cottages is a single-storey outbuilding range, which has been altered over time.
