Description

The Cottage is a 16th-century timber-framed building, re-clad with painted weatherboards, situated in Dedham Grove Hill. It has a T-plan layout, comprising a two-storey wing and a single-storey stem range with attics. The roofs are ridged and gabled, and thatched. There are three red brick chimneys—two on the wing and one on the stem range. A dormer window with small-paned casements is located on the stem. The front features a central door, a casement window to the left, and a shopfront dating to around 1800. This shopfront has a dentilled entablature and four fielded panel shutters; the central bay of this section has plastered walls. The wing is weatherboarded on the front and plastered on the side wall, with two small-paned casement windows, one above the other, with the lower window being smaller. A plain, modern door is located at the lower left of the wing.
