Description
Rye Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1400, constructed with a timber frame that is partly exposed and plastered, forming an L-shape. The building has two storeys and features ridged, gabled roofs covered with peg tiles, along with one gabled dormer on the stem range. The central porch on the front is gabled and also covered with peg tiles, featuring the original front door set beneath a flat, four-centred oak arch. There are modern leaded casements on either side of the porch and a set of three casements on the first storey of the crosswing. The house has two modern red brick chimneys. Inside, the stem or hall-range was laterally divided around 1510, while the wing-floor retains unrefined central tenons, indicating its construction around 1400. The top-plates are halved and have bridled scarf joints.
