Description

Horsepits Farmhouse is a 16th-century or earlier timber-framed farmhouse with crosswings to the east and west, arranged in an H-plan over two storeys. It features a continuous jetty and a first-floor hall. The timber frame is exposed with external carved wind-bracing, and the roofs are ridged and gabled, covered with peg tiles. Jettied tie-beams are present in the wing gables. A red brick chimney is located south of the main entrance. The original infill was plaster. The north wing has a red brick wall on its ground storey, and a 18th-century door and surround are set within it. A restored tripartite window is on the ground storey, while the first storey contains six different windows, including those within the wing gables. A Venetian window on the ground storey of the right wing is predominantly original. The crosswings extend far to the rear, where the timber frame is also exposed.
