Description
The Church of All Saints is a parish church located on Wakes Street in Wakes Colne. It dates back to the Norman period, featuring a nave with a west timber bell turret and a shingled broach spire, while the lower part of the turret is weatherboarded. The chancel is lower and narrower, having been extended to the east in the 19th century. The church's walls are constructed from coursed flint, brick, and stone quotas.
There are three high windows in the north wall of the nave, which have stone quoins and voussoirs. The south wall has two similar windows that are currently blocked. Notably, there are two reticulated windows from around 1330 located at the north-east and south-east corners. The north door, dating from around 1200, features attached circular columns of a single order.
The roofs include a peg-tiled north porch from the 15th to 16th centuries, which has been much restored and includes cusped verge boards. Inside, there is a portal belfry frame with arch braces that have been repaired in the perpendicular style. The nave roof has a west tiebeam supported by wall posts and moulded oak corbels. Additionally, there is a 14th-century rectangular three-light transomed window in the south nave wall, featuring two brick mullions and a single brick transom, as well as a similar window in the west wall with stone mullions and a transom.
