Description

Wakes Colne Mill and House is a watermill built around 1840, along with a house, located on the Colchester Road. The mill is constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, rising three stories with a four-window front. Centrally positioned doors are present on the first and second floors, above which is a jettied sack-hoist. The roof is hipped and gambrelled, covered in slate with lead flashings. All windows are fixed, with six panes of glass. A half door is located centrally on the ground storey. Inside the mill, three pairs of underdriven millstones are mounted on a hearse. To the south and east are two-storey ranges. A two-storey house, built around 1820, is situated on the north-east corner, constructed of gault brick and featuring a two-window range of marginally glazed sash windows on the first floor, with an angled bay window below.
