Description

Bridgewick Cottages, also known as Nos 1 and 2, is a 16th century or earlier timber-framed house located in Chappel on Chappel Hill. The building features plastered walls and consists of two storeys with three bays. The ground floor has a west-facing front door made up of six fielded panels set in a wide case, topped with a leaded flat hood supported by consoles. There are three sets of three casement windows on this level. The first storey also has three sets of three casements, along with two double casements in the spaces between. The roof is hipped and covered with peg tiles, featuring eaves. A red brick chimney stack is situated near the center of the U-shaped plan, with the main roof extending down to the first storey. There is a stair tower on the north-east return, which likely served as an open hall when the house was originally built.
