Description

The Malting is a 16th century or earlier house that forms an L-plan. It is timber framed and plastered, standing two storeys high with a gabled crosswing at the north end. The long range is hipped at the north and extends south with an industrial timber range of the same height and section. A gabled porch at the front return of the crosswing features a plaster relief of grapes and the date 1706. All existing windows are modern casements, and the roofs are covered with peg tiles. Inside, the south room is panelled in pine with fielded and bolection moulding, a timber ceiling cornice, and wide oak floorboards. This room, along with the dog-leg stair that has turned balusters, dates from around 1680 to 1740.
