Description
Riverhouse is a former Congregational Chapel, built in 1846 by Thomas Sanford, Esq. It has a square plan and is constructed of brick, which is painted and rendered. The building features a two-storey front facing Quay Street, complete with a parapet and a dentilled pediment. The sides have pilastered returns and a giant order with doubled pilasters flanking the central bay.
The ground floor includes a portico supported by two round Doric columns and two pilasters, with modern doors set in a recess. Above, there are three-light windows, and the flat entablature is adorned with four Doric columns, plinths, triglyphs, and mutules. The west side elevation has two rows of clear-glazed sash windows, interspersed with four pilasters, all featuring capitals of the giant order.
