Description
The gatehouse to Coval Lodge, built around 1840, is a single-storey lodge made of painted brick with a low-pitched slated roof that features overhanging eaves. The structure has three bays, with the central bay being the widest and the two side bays recessed. The left and right bays contain entrances, with the left featuring a depressed pointed arched head and a planked door. The central bay has a projecting three-light square-sided bay window beneath a separate roof. This window has architraves with timber mullions and a transom, along with timber glazing bars that divide each light into two sub-lights; the upper lights have painted heads and some original coloured glass in the right and centre lights. The right bay includes a single architraved window that is divided vertically into three sub-lights with pointed heads and original coloured glass in the spandrels, along with timber glazing bars. The gatehouse also has paired fused stacks at the centre.
