Description

The Conduit in Tower Gardens is a structure built in 1814. It features a dome of stone supported by six circular, tapered Doric columns that do not have entasis, standing on pedestals. The dome is topped with a circular entablature adorned with triglyphs. An inscription on one side reads, "This Conduit was erected AD.1814 by the parish, aided by a subscription of one hundred pounds by Robert Greenwood, Merchant." On the opposite side, it states, "Rebuilt by the Parish AD.1852." The original location of the conduit was in the High Street near the junction with Springfield Road, but it was moved to its current site in the early 20th century.
