Description

The War Memorial stands approximately 4 meters high and features a round shaft topped with a cross that has simply carved arms. The east face of the cross shows a mark where a centrally placed sword was once attached but has since been removed. The base of the shaft is both chamfered and moulded. On the east face of the plinth, there is a carved inscription that reads: '1914-1919/TO THE GLORY OF GOD/TO THE HONOUR/ OF THE/ MEN OF GT.WALTHAM/WHO SERVED /AND TO THE MEMORY OF THE FOLLOWING/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE GREAT WAR', followed by the names of 36 individuals who fell during World War I. Additionally, the names of nine war dead from World War II were added later.
