Description

Rayne War Memorial is a cross set on an octagonal plinth, which is supported by a base with four steps. The memorial features a simply detailed cross that sits atop a chamfered shaft with a moulded base and cap. The plinth has a carved inscription that reads: "TO THE GLORY OF THE GOD/AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN/OF THIS VILLAGE/WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/1914-1918." The names of the fallen are carved on the flanking faces and are over-painted in black. Additionally, there is a later-added carved plaque leaning against the shaft that bears the names of those who died in World War II.
