Description

This is an 18th-century timber-framed and plastered house. It has a weatherboarded wing to the rear, extending north-west. The house is two storeys high with an attic, and has a four-window front. The windows are mostly 20th-century casements, with one double-hung sash window retaining glazing bars. A 20th-century shop front occupies the southern end of the ground floor. The main entrance features a six-panel door, the upper panels glazed, and is sheltered by a swept canopy hood supported on console brackets. The roof is tiled and of mansard design, with two gabled dormer windows. The house is part of a group of buildings including the Old White Horse, 1 and 2 White Horse Cottages, St Michael’s Cottages, Vale House, The Folly, Tyle Barn, Rose Cottage, Butlers, the Old Post House, Parsonage Cottage and House of Retreat.
