Description

Pleshey Castle Bridge is a Grade I listed structure located on the southeast side of The Street in Pleshey. This 15th-century bridge is made of red brick and features a single span that crosses the moat surrounding the castle mound. It has a two-centred arch and diagonally set buttresses. The bridge served as the approach to Pleshey Castle, which was originally built by the Mandevilles, likely in the 12th century, and later came under the ownership of the Duke of Gloucester. The castle fell into ruins after the Duke was executed by Richard II in 1397.
