Description
Bancroft House is a late 18th century or early 19th century building with a plastered front that conceals an earlier timber-framed structure from the 16th century. It has two storeys and features a two-window range with double-hung sashes that include glazing bars. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door with raised and fielded panels, topped by a semi-circular fanlight. This is framed by a Doric porch that has fluted columns, an ornamental frieze, and a modillion cornice. The roof is tiled. Inside, the house boasts fine 16th century moulded ceiling beams. Bancroft House is part of a group that includes Nos 66 to 78 (even) with 57 to 61 (odd), Munnions, Banstreets, Bell Street, the Church of St Mary, and the Vicarage on Church Street.
